Апстракт:
Over the past few decades, Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) were the main source for provisioning of network connectivity and real-time data transmission between vehicles with the aim of traffic safety improvement. Emerging of new high bandwidth demanding applications and services, such as in-vehicle multimedia applications, vehicular social networking, location services, requires changes in the existing computational and network models in VANET. In order to overcome these challenges, the concept of Vehicular cloud computing (VCC), as an integration of VANETs and Cloud computing technology, is proposed recently. Vehicles are important source of computational and sensing resources that enable sharing of the data from the environment. Due to limited resource capacity in the vehicle, an individual vehicle cannot provide an efficient support for new applications and services. VCC concept merges advantages of using on-board vehicle resources within transportation systems and advantages of the latest computational resources within conventional cloud systems. Significant improvements in traffic and transportation systems, such as reduction of traffic congestion, reduction of traffic accidents, reduction of travel time, reduction of environmental pollution and reduction of energy consumption, are possible to achieve by VCC implementation. This paper analyses the possibility of VCC concept application for traffic safety improvement. The advantages of this concept, as well as challenges in its wider adoption are also going to be addressed.
