Апстракт:
Propranolol (PRO, (RS)-1-(1-methylethylamino)-3-(1-naphthyloxy)propan-2-ol hydrochloride) is the first generation of nonselective β-blockers of adrenergic receptors in heart. Frequent use of PRO led to its presence in wastewater and thus the need for its removal. The aim of this work was to investigate the kinetics of photocatalytic degradation of PRO using UVA/O2 in the presence of a commercial catalyst TiO2 Degussa P25. It was found that the degradation rate is strongly related to the: catalyst dosage, substrate concentration and initial pH of the solution. Efficiency of direct photolysis PRO was also tested and on the basis of the obtained results it can be concluded that direct photolysis has no significant role in overall rate of photocatalytic degradation. Degradation of PRO was monitored by HPLC–PDA technique and mineralization by TOC technique. We analyzed in vitro cell growth activity of the PRO and mixtures of PRO and its intermediates, formed during the photocatalytic degradation, in four histological different cell lines.
