Апстракт:
Children with chronic rheumatic diseases suffer from bone disease like osteopenia or osteoporosis. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is a technique used to measure bone mineral density (BMD) as golden standard. Low BMD is associated with increased bone fracture risk. The preferred regions for BMD measurement are lumbar spine, proximal femur and whole body. The technique relies on transmission measurement made at two foton energies to allow calcium, and thereby bone mineral, be assessed. Low BMD in children with chronic rheumatic diseases has been associated with a combination of factors such as disease activity, high doses of corticosteroids, low intake of calcium, delayed pubertal stage, low sunlight exposure, and prolonged immobility. An early recognition of children with risk of osteopenia and osteoporosis is important for prevention of bone fractures and provide a better prognosis of the disease.
